Continuing Education:

This program is approved for 1.5 contact hour for nurses, social workers, certified case managers, disability management specialists, psychologists, and licensed mental health counselors.

Caseloads can be confounding – for case managers involved in diverse settings and using different practice models. What is the right caseload for your case managers? What’s the right size for your department? Really, when all is said and done, it boils down to this: What is the magic number that will enable your department, practice or organization to optimize the delivery of care, secure cost-containment strategies, and achieve the right utilization of resources?

Finding the right caseload size is a blend of art and science. The latest research into the question of “caseload capacity” reveals that there are, indeed, measurable ways to gauge the ideal caseload. Then there is the “art” of the practice – where a particular caseload may be the perfect number for one case manager, it may not be right for another. Human variables, from personality differences and professional preferences, all come into play.

While ideal caseloads may differ, the important thing is to understand why they differ. Bringing together experts behind the latest research into both the art and science of caseload capacity, the Case In Point Webinar series presents Caseloads Matter: Navigating the Art and Science of Caseload Management, which will shed light on how you can successfully navigate caseloads. Settings to be addressed include:

  • Acute case management.
  • Managed care/health plan.
  • Disability case management.
  • Workers' compensation.
  • Home health
  • And more.

About the Webinar

Caseloads seem to create the perennial question in case management: What caseload is right for your department? According to the 2011 Case In Point Salary & Trends Report, nearly one-quarter (24%) of case managers report a caseload of more than 50 patients, with 7% reporting a caseload of 100 or more. Yet the most common size of caseload is between 21-30 patients (14%), 11-20 patients (13%) and 31-40 patients (10%).

In investigating the reason behind common caseloads, the Case In Point Webinar sheds light on the best practices that lead to an ideal case size. Presenting the latest research on “caseload capacity” along with first-hand accounts of ideal caseloads in practical settings, the training program will deliver a mix of the art and science behind proper caseloads.

Caseloads Matter: Navigating the Art and Science of Caseload Management delivers valuable insights for case management leaders as well as frontline practitioners, and it will help you define the issue of caseloads – and pinpoint the strategies you can use to address caseloads and improve the functioning of your organization.
