Almost 46% of physicians across specialties report symptoms of burnout, including emotional exhaustion, low enthusiasm, depression, cynicism, thoughts of suicide and more, according to a survey of nearly 7,300 doctors published in Archives of Internal Medicine. Physicians do not always know that support systems exist, said Terrance Bedient of the Medical Society of the State of New York. "We really have some work to do to encourage physicians to look at their own stresses, figure out what kind of help they need, and to feel comfortable reaching out.
