New guidelines cover treatment, diagnosis of lupus nephritis
The American College of Rheumatology issued new guidelines on how to detect and manage lupus nephritis. Patients suspected of having the condition should undergo kidney biopsy to detect the type and severity of the condition. All patients with lupus nephritis should be given hydroxycholoquine, and those with protein in the urine should take ACE inhibitors or angiotension-receptor blockers. The guidelines will be published in the journal Arthritis Care & Research
