The U.S. was 131st in the world for premature birth rate, according to a report released on Wednesday by the March of Dimes Foundation, the World Health Organization and other groups. In the U.S., the preterm birth rate is 12.0 per 100 live births, and nearly 500,000 babies are born before 37 weeks annually. Around the world, more than a million babies die from preterm complications each year.
