Engage heart failure patients in decisions, AHA tells clinicians
An American Heart Association's scientific statement covering heart failure includes guidance for conversations between physicians and late-stage patients. The statement, published in Circulation: Journal of the American Heart Association, calls for an annual discussion of prognosis, treatments and patient goals. "The process of checking in with patients on a regular basis is extremely important because heart failure and general health change over time," said lead author Dr. Larry Allen in a statement.
