Hospitals with advanced electronic medical record environments report numerous benefits such as improved operational efficiency, patient safety and clinical quality, according to a study by HIMSS Analytics and The Advisory Board. More specifically, 94% of respondents said they used the systems to cut adverse drug effects, while 73% said they tailored the technology to enhance quality measures for venous thromboembolism. All hospitals reported success on at least one core measure and one safety measure, including reduced adverse drug events (73%) and improved venous thromboembolism metrics (55%).
