Amputation rates for U.S. diabetes patients vary greatly
A study in Diabetes Care revealed that certain areas in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Texas had the highest rates of diabetes-related amputations among Medicare patients in 2008. Regions of Arizona, Florida, Michigan and New Mexico reported the lowest rates. Researchers said they could not explain the differences but they could be due to higher rates of severe complications in some regions.
