Well before the Affordable Care Act was signed into law, new models for healthcare delivery were being moved from the drawing board to the field. The impetus behind this transformation was the recognition that patients – particularly those with complex medical and social needs – routinely experience poor outcomes because care was not coordinated across multiple sites and providers. Changes to the status quo needed to be taken.
"And now that Alan has some free time, he can return to another burning passion of his: ',' the economics of rock and roll," the president said. "This is something that Alan actually cares about." In fact, Krueger gave a speech this week at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, where he said the music business offers valuable lessons about the broader U.S. economy.

It seems as if not a day goes by that we don't hear about another medical horror story. With the health care system being in various degrees of disrepair, it is even more important for patients to get the support they need to navigate complex diagnoses and treatment. Even if you are a savvy patient, when you are ill, you are at your most vulnerable. A medical maze that was already overwhelming is exponentially more frightening and confusing. It's not uncommon for regularly strong, empowered people to go into "helpless patient mode" when faced with a health challengehttp://www.blogher.com/patient-advocates-what-they-are-how-hire-one-do-you-need-one.

Any parent can tell you that each child comes from the womb with an individual temperament that seems preloaded at the factory. But from the moment of birth, a lot of things set to work on that temperament--moderating it, challenging it, annealing it, wounding it. What we're left with after 10 or 20 or 50 years is quite different from what we started out with.
Both are squarely aimed at dramatically reducing healthcare costs and increasing patient safety/health outcomes. In a fairly rapid sequence of events (by healthcare standards), pricing transparency is gaining momentum on it’s new trajectory. While we can’t tie this progress to the Affordable Care Act directly – it is welcome and important progress nonetheless.
