The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Board of Directors has released guidelines on how doctors can help
prevent blood clots in patients who undergo a hip replacement procedure. The recommendations include encouraging
patients to walk as soon as possible after the surgery, administering anticoagulants and using patient-specific
mechanical compression devices.
