Working at the Top of Your Practice
By Anne Llewellyn, RN-BC, MS, BHSA, CCM, CRRN
August 13, 2012

Today, case management and care coordination are mentioned almost on a daily basis in articles that deal with accountable care, healthcare reform, Medicaid, quality of care, safety, transitions of care, medical home and other healthcare challenges. Never before has the practice been in the limelight as much as it is today. Being in the spotlight is something leaders in the practice have pushed for, as they knew that when case management and care coordination are utilized effectively, consumers would receive care that is safe, evidence-based and cost-effective.

To be effective, case managers must keep up to date with the clinical as well as the business issues impacting healthcare. This month, we have two webinars that I hope you will participate as they highlight the value of and the challenges for case managers as a result of the struggling economy, an upcoming presidential election and an aging consumer base that is tipping the balance of a shaky healthcare system.

On August 29, 2012, we bring you Health Reform's Impact on Case Management; Ongoing Challenges and Opportunities in Case Management and Care Coordination. The program will bring together leaders from the case management industry to discuss the impact of the recent decision by the Supreme Court to uphold the Affordable Care Act and discuss how the law will impact your practice, your organization and what opportunities and challenges it brings. To learn more and register, click here.

Then on August 30, 2012, as part of our ongoing Medical Home Series we bring you: Accountable Care: Taking the Lead: How Care Management Fits within the Booming ACO Model. This program will look at the role of case managers in accountable care models taking shape across the care continuum as a result of the Accountable Care Act and the efforts that are redesigning the way for which healthcare is paid. To read the overview and register, click here.

If you have not signed up for Care Coordination Summit: New Models of Care Transforming Healthcare, take time to visit the website and explore the agenda and register. In one day you will get an overview of the major changes taking place across the healthcare continuum. We have an excellent slate of speakers who will share their practical expertise and share how they are leading the way in dealing with the changes taking place and the new models of care that are transforming the healthcare system. As an FYI, we have an early bird rate special that is still in place…but will expires on August 23, 2012, so be sure register as soon as you can. If you want to bring your team, we also have a group rate. Email me if you have any questions at allewellyn@accessintel.com.

Attending these educational programs will help ensure that you are working at the top of your practice and prepared to understand the changes taking place and ready to take the lead as a key member of the care coordination team in order to ensure smooth transitions. I look forward to seeing you at each of these events.

Have a good week!
