Today, case management and care coordination are mentioned almost on a daily basis in articles that deal with accountable care, healthcare reform, Medicaid, quality of care, safety, transitions of care, medical home and other healthcare challenges. Never before has the practice been in the limelight as much as it is today. Being in the spotlight is something leaders in the practice have pushed for, as they knew that when case management and care coordination are utilized effectively, consumers would receive care that is safe, evidence-based and cost-effective.
To be effective, case managers must keep up to date with the clinical as well as the business issues impacting healthcare. This month, we have two webinars that I hope you will participate as they highlight the value of and the challenges for case managers as a result of the struggling economy, an upcoming presidential election and an aging consumer base that is tipping the balance of a shaky healthcare system.
