Keeping Busy Healthcare Professionals at the Peak of Their Practice
By Anne Llewellyn, RN-BC, MS, BHSA, CCM, CRRC
June 18, 2012

As you read this issue of Case In Point Weekly, I will be flying to San Francisco for the 22nd Annual Case Management Society of America’s Conference. Attending the national CMSA conference is always exciting, as this is where I have the opportunity to learn, grow, meet new colleagues and reconnect with longtime friends.

I also wanted you to know that Dorland Health will have a booth at the show this year. We will be in the Ambassador’s Row at booth #639. I will be there and look forward to meeting you in person to discuss how you are doing in your role and what your educational needs are. We will have information on all of our products and services so make sure you stop by.

If you are not attending the show this year, I will provide updates from the show via our Linked-In Case In Point Peer Group. If you are not a member, join us today – these are always a number of interesting discussions that will crystalize the role you play and the challenges and diverse opinions that make up the care continuum.

Unfortunately, only a small percentage of those involved in case management get to attend any of the national conferences or even state/regional meetings due to time constraints and limited budgets. That is why, as editor in chief, I choose topics that are pertinent to the entire practice and reach out to leading professionals who you would typically see at a national conference to share their expertise, tools and tips that allow you to have the most up to date information on topics that are important to your practice.

Each of our webinars, e-learning programs, special reports and monthly editions of Case In Point focus on trends and challenges you face in your practice. Each learning activity provides continuing education credits that you can use to renew your professional license or national certification. As everyone is busy and cannot participate in many of the live programs when they are presented, all of our webinars are available on demand so that you can include them as part of your professional development learning opportunities or when your staff can attend when it is convenient for them.

Downloading a webinar, a special report or reading an issue of Case In Point allows you to keep up to date on your schedule. We realize funds are tight, so that is why we developed the Case In Point Learning Network. The best option is the premium level, where you have access to each issue of Case In Point, two webinars of your choice, two special reports and a 30 percent discount to the 2012 Care Coordination Summit. The benefits of this level far outweigh the cost so make sure you visit the website so you can sign up.

Next week, we have two webinars that cover important topics for all case managers responsible for care coordination in all settings. The first webinar will take place on June 26, 2012: The Transformative Power of Health Coaching: A Pathway to Health and Wellness: Learn How Health Coaching Provides an Answer to Modern Healthcare Dilemmas. The program will share information on coaching and the competencies that are important to have to be effective.

Improving HCAHPS: Satisfying Patients - and Your Bottom Line: Learn Strategies to Achieve Optimal Reimbursement Rates will assist those in hospitals and other organizations to better understand value-based purchasing and their role in the process. Part two will take place on July 25: Boosting Quality Process Measures: Steps to Success for Your Hospital: Become a Leader and Strengthen Your Reimbursement Level, which will discuss the how organizations are improving metrics in core measures that ensure safe, quality and cost-effective care.

Healthcare is being redefined to change the trajectory we are currently on, which is unsustainable for our country. As a result, all in healthcare realize that it is critical to engage consumers into the process if true change can occur. These two learning opportunities drive this point home and provide information professionals from all settings can use to improve their competencies, their practice and the care provided to each patient who entered the healthcare system.

Have a great week!
