A study of more than 700 Medicare patients found that seniors may frequently misstate their personal history of stroke. Comparing word-of-mouth answers to the results of MRI scans, researchers found a 20 percent discrepancy in reported versus actual stroke occurrence. While MRI scans found evidence of stroke in 31 percent of the study’s participants, fewer than 12 percent reported a history of stroke in a supplied questionnaire. The study appeared in the Archives of Neurology.
